[Image taken 18.2.23] York St John University, off Clarence Street, York. Street view shows a sign - no parking. Perhaps this is the reason for the gate and it being closed today, a Saturday. (street view from 2016 shows a manually operated barrier. I’ve not noticed it/encountered it in use before.) But the driver in the image and the one to the far right beyond the gate though not parking they were waiting... The driver of the nearest vehicle picked up two people who ran to it when it was the other side of the closed barrier, and got in. The second vehicle parked up behind. So, how was the first driver to turn round? The security guard opened the gate for him/her. Lord Mayor's Walk - runs along part of the perimeter of the campus is a polluted road. It may have been the stimulus for the event raising awareness of air pollution that took place on campus in 2022: pintofscience.co.uk/event/impact-of-air-pollution-adventures-from-the-living-lab There are bus stops along the main road that passes the University. The campus is walking distance from the train and bus station. York St John has a private motor vehicle parking policy www.yorksj.ac.uk/students/your-home/car-parking/ and discourages onsite parking. Yet, this ‘accommodating’ behaviour does not force drivers to rethink their practices or car use. To the detriment of residents. Context and links: #191153.
